Rescue & Rehabilitation Center
There are so many neglected, abandoned, and abused horses in our community. The Equine Project’s Rescue & Rehabilitation Center takes those horses and offer them a second chance at life. We believe that all horses deserve to be loved and respected.
These rescued horses receive immediate medical attention and proper nutrition. After clearance from the vet, these once scared and lonely horses, are introduced to the other rescued horses involved in the rehabilitation program. This is a very important part of their therapy. When these rescued horses start to regain their strength and become the magnificent horse again, their true personality shines! What a touching moment this becomes when a horse that has been stuck in a pen, barely larger than it, gets to run and play again. These horses are so grateful to be loved and cared for, they become the best partners a person could ever desire.
The Equine Project has rescued dozens of horses. Unfortunately, not all of our stories are successful. Some horses were bought from slaughter, just so they can spend their last few days with our staff and volunteers which displayed hours of love and devotion to these horses until their last breath. Those horses in return demonstrated their appreciation being rescued from the auction by showing our staff and volunteers their love and respect as well.
When a horse is going through this rebhabilitation program, thousands of dollars are used for vet bills, training, and feed. These horses will stay with us until a perfect match is found for them. That perfect match may take a few years (we will not risk our horses being put into a home where they could be neglected, abused, or sent to slaughter). Until then, they have a permanent home with us in one of our programs (F.E.O.S.A.P., I Can Ride, or Cowboy-Up).
