David Boyd
Founder / CEO
davidboyd@theequineproject.org
David has not lived what most would call a traditional life. Born to an unwed mother, David found himself bouncing from tenant farms, foster homes, and orphanages throughout his childhood. He had been through well over 100 different homes before he turned 12, most of which were horrifying situations. It was through these experiences that he developed the heart and passion he has for people today.
While he was at living on a tenant farm, (located on the Wadsworth estate) David found his sanctuary with a herd of wild horses. He realized that the most honest relationships in his life were with these horses. They taught him important values like acceptance, trust, and respect. It was then he had a vision to help bring these wonderful relationships to other hurting children. He finally felt like he had a way to help these kids.
In his later years, David went on to become a remarkable horseman, training some of our country’s finest riders and horses. He also went on to develop a horseback search and rescue unit (which you can read more about on our programs page). Over time, he realized how he could relate his horsemanship to his passion for healing people. The product is The Project. And the mission is to heal our nation, one community at a time – using horses as the starting point.
Sarah Boyd
Executive Director
sarahboyd@theequineproject.org
Sarah was born with a gift. By the time she was 3, David found her fearlessly standing underneath his stallions, cleaning their stalls with her pink wheelbarrow and little green shovel without a care in the world – and she hasn’t stopped loving and taking care of horses since. All throughout her life Sarah, has worked with her dad in taking in over 50 traumatized horses and rehabilitating them. It’s because of her ability to read the horse that she is able to truly help these horses past the emotional traumas that they had previously endured. Sarah has a deep passion for this project and will continue to carry on the vision of her father for many years to come.
Suzanne Cavin
Director
suzannecavin@theequineproject.org
Suzanne started working with David and Sarah about 5 years ago. In many ways she found that her own life paralleled with David's, finding acceptance, trust and respect from the horses she handled from the young age of 5. Suzanne worked with several different trainers over the years and has learned how to communicate well with horses. She used this knowledge to not only to train, but enjoyed exposing this passion with many of the people in her community.
After meeting David, she fell in love with everything that The Equine Project represents. After her first experience in David's workshop (the round pen) she said "Forget everything I knew about horses, let's just start over!" Over time, Sarah and Suzanne developed a very close friendship, realizing that they shared a common vision. Together they have been working with David, developing The Equine Project.
